CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's outdoor track and field team began the outdoor season by dominating Centennial Conference foes Franklin & Marshall College and Gettysburg College en route to winning the coveted Little Three Championship in front of the home crowd at Biddle Field on Sunday.
Sprints
The 100m saw Dickinson finish first and second thanks to
Erin Olsavsky (12.53) and
Emily Chaine (13.24).
Maddie Kyle just missed the podium taking fourth at 13.52, while
Catarina Acosta grabbed seventh with a 14.15. When hurdles were put down at the same distance the pair of
Leah Biwott and
Sylvie McMaken-Marsh nabbed second (15.29) and fifth (18.79) respectively.
Two members of the Red and White claimed podium slots for the 200m with
Maddie Brown grabbing second at 27.04, followed right behind by
Abbe Kitchin at 27.11.
Maddie Kyle finished out the Top-5 in 27.80 with
Emma Dice two spots back on 30.14.
A trio of Devils competed in the 400m with Brown winning the event thanks to a 58.92. She was joined on the podium by Kitchin in third (1:01.81), while Dice hit in 1:08.09 for sixth. With hurdles added to the mix at 400m
Lily Swain grabbed second (1:10.11) and
Lily Cusa finished in fifth (1:14.45).
Distance
The 800m was filled with Red and White as
Marley Kurey won the event with a 2:22.23, followed by
Elizabeth Barbash (5th - 2:26.37),
Devon Culberson (6th - 2:44.55) and
Lauren Scott (7th - 2:47.03).
Barbash would bash the competition for the 1500m posting a winning a time of 4:51.54.
Sophia Kovatsis just missed the podium in fourth at 5:08.14. Culberson and Scott nabbed seventh (5:21.44) and ninth (5:38.38) respectively.
It was another Dickinson triumph during the 3000m steeplechase with
Amiyah Priebe collecting the win by hitting the line in 11:20.35, while
Breanna Franchak claimed fourth at 12:02.43.
Myra Naqvi was the highest placing Devil in the 5000m grabbing second after clocking in at 18:17.55.
Maddie Garber (6th - 18:56.34),
Meghan Higgins-Haas (7th - 19:17.29),
Abby Duffy (8th - 19:28.35),
Jenna Kerns (10th - 21:03.20) and
Rebecca Roberts (11th - 21:40.94) all competed in the race as well.
Relays
The Dickinson unit of
Annie Leder, Chaine, Cusa, and Kyle picked up another DC victory during the 4x100m by stopping the timer in 51.13.
Brown, Chaine, Kitchin and Swain went to work in the 4x400m posting a winning time of 4:10.33.
The Devils finished off the relay sweep with the team of Kovatsis, Kurey, Naqvi and Priebe hitting the stripe in 9:52.14.
Field
At the throwing area,
Damien Labrada,
Jenna Deep and
Sarah Glickson grabbed third (31.26m), fourth (27.84m) and eighth (16.97m) in the discus. Deep would then win the hammer with a toss of 40.39m and was joined on the podium by Labrada in third (39.25m). Glickson completed the Top-5 at 30.43m, while Acosta finished seventh (26.03m) Four members of the team did battle in the javelin with Olsavsky pacing the group in second following a toss of 30.00m. Glickson, Deep and Dice earned fourth (23.47m), fifth (22.40m) and seventh (18.41m). The final throwing event would be the shot put and that was where Labrada and Deep earned first (10.57m) and third (9.95m). Glickson rounded out the competing DC athletes with an eighth-place finish thanks to a mark of 8.14m.
The duo of Swain and McMaken-Marsh went to work in the pole vault taking first (3.10m) and fifth (2.80m) respectively.
At the jumping area, Biwott paced the field for the high jump by clearing 1.52m. The long jump saw Leder set a new Biddle Field record with a winning mark of 5.56m, followed close behind by Biwott in second (5.10m) and Kyle in seventh (4.08m). Leder returned to action during the triple jump earning second by dropping in at 10.90m.
Next on the Track
The Red Devils return to action next Friday and Saturday when they head back to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to compete in the Jim Taylor Invite hosted by Susquehanna University. The action begins at 4pm on Friday, before resuming at 10am Saturday.
