WINCHESTER, Va. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team used a five-goal second period to close within 7-6 of the host Shenandoah University at halftime on Wednesday night at Aikens Stadium. However, the Hornets outscored the Red and White 6-0 over the final 30 minutes to claim a 13-6 non-conference victory.
- The Red and White were under pressure early as not even four minutes in Kaitlin Clements and Alex Ripkin bested DC goalie Sierra McLaughlin for a 2-0 lead.
- Following a stop from SU keeper Madison Perry on Crawford Fisher the Hornets made it 3-0 through Emily Ransom with 7:54 gone.
- Perry would deny Bella Guckes, but did not have the answer for Marnie Todd after Guckes set her up for the finish.
- Peyton VanDorpe would be brought into the game late in the period to replace McLaughlin between the pipes and unfortunately conceded a late marker to Ransom for a 4-1 lead after one.
- Shenandoah continued to apply the offensive pressure just three minutes in when Ayla Jantz and Addison Harmel extended the margin to 6-1.
- With 5:56 off the clock the Devils pulled one back when a giveaway by Ripkin led to Delaney Herbert finishing off her tenth of the year, but the home side responded right away thanks to Clements making the lead 7-2.
- After Sage Whiteside claimed the ensuing the draw control the visitors found some rhythm on the offensive end of the field as they ripped off four straight in a less than six minute span to close within 7-6 at the break. During that run Faith Parker connected twice, while Guckes and Whiteside each cashed in once.
- Shenandoah came out of the break "on fire" as they struck three times on their opening four shots to extend the gap to 10-6 with 5:48 gone.
- Later in the period VanDorpe had the answer for Ainsley Buckner, but at the other end Perry turned aside Parker which allowed Amy Bell to tally less than a minute later.
- The Hornets continued to lockdown the Devils offense outshooting them 3-0 over the opening five minutes with a pair of offerings from Buckner finding the back of the net to stretch it out to 13-6.
- Herbert would notch the final two chances for the Red and White, but neither could best Perry as the game came to a close.
