COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team suffered their fourth straight defeat and their second consecutive Centennial Conference setback on Saturday to the Ursinus College Bears by a final of 14-12 at Patterson Field. The Bears built up a 7-1 through the early part of the second quarter and were able to hold off a late charge from the Red and White to claim the victory.
- The home side needed just 41-seconds to take the lead with Julia McCann setting up Maeve Leonzi for the finish past DC keeper Peyton VanDorpe.
- Grace Kelly would record the first two shots of the game for Dickinson with one hitting the post, while the other found the back of the net past Allison McAnally off a nice dish from Faith Parker at the 4:40 mark.
- Dickinson tried to take their first lead of the day less than a minute later, but Carson Cerow was turned away by McAnally.
- Ursinus would notch six of the last seven shots of the period with four of them finding the back of the net to take a 5-1 edge into the second.
- The Bears took advantage of the opening draw control of the period as McCann won the draw and cashed in at the other end past VanDorpe with 67 seconds off the clock.
- Each keeper would then be called upon with VanDorpe denying Leonzi, while McAnally had the response for Kelly.
- With five minutes gone Grace Lynch extended the margin to 7-1, before Delaney Herbert had her hand in three consecutive markers for the Red and White in a two minute span. First, she setup Jenna Nowland for a tally, prior to striking twice on her own to close within 7-4 still with 7:30 to go.
- Dickinson tried to cut one more off the deficit, but Parker was shutdown by McAnally. That led to a pair of quick strikes from Lynch and Leonzi to make it 9-4 inside of four minutes left.
- The Red and White closed the frame with six straight shots including two each from Marnie Todd and Sage Whiteside which resulted in Todd getting one past the keeper trimming the gap to 9-5 heading into the break.
- Ursinus used the first three minutes of the quarter to open their lead to 11-5 thanks to Leonzi and McCann.
- However, Dickinson responded right back with Caroline Cavendish and Crawford Fisher on ensuing shots cutting the deficit down to 11-7 with 4:54 gone.
- VanDorpe kept things where they were with a save on Meghan Vizian, but a DC giveaway just over a minute later resulted in Jaime Michaud making it 12-7.
- Dickinson got that goal right back on the following draw control as Jillian McNulty got the rock ahead to Kelly for the finish. Just prior to the end of the frame McNulty would play provider to Herbert giving the Devils life at 12-9 going to the fourth.
- The Bears had the Devils caged in early in the period recording the first five shots with VanDorpe making three saves, while Vizian tallied to make it 13-9 with 10:48 left.
- Attempts from Izzy Hall, Kelly and Nowland tried to bring the visitors back into the game, but none of them bothered McAnally.
- Dickinson would score on three of their final four shots thanks to Cerow (2) and Herbert, unfortunately it was not enough as Michaud picked up one more for the hosts to set the 14-12 final.
