HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Dickinson men's tennis team competed hard all day, but came up just short of the Carroll University (Wisc.) Pioneers by a final score of 5-4 on day one of their spring break trip in South Carolina.
Doubles (Pioneers 2-1)
Dickinson collected their lone win at the third slot where the pair of
Florian Anderson and
DJ Finnell were too strong for the group of Luke Barter and Layton Carls winning by the score of 8-4. At the top spot
Garrick Adams and
Will Lewis went shot-for-shot with Andrew and Ryan LaBelle, but dropped an 8-5 decision. The other Devils team of
Thomas Griffin and
Levi Veleanu fell 8-4 to David Eman and Jack McCaffery.
Singles (Tied 3-3)
Finnell continued a strong day at number five collecting his second win of the day by downing Barter (6-2, 6-1). Veleanu had to go the distance against Eman after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker the Devil rallied back to claim a 6-3 win during the second and then dominating in the third set tiebreak (10-2). The other DC triumph came a slot earlier at number two where Griffin posted consecutive 6-4 wins over R. LaBelle. Anderson went blow-for-blow with Carls winning the second set 6-1, before falling in the decisive tiebreaker 10-3. Adams and Lewis fell in straight sets at the first and fourth lines.
Next on the Court
Dickinson (1-2) goes right back to work tomorrow at high noon when they square off with another Wisconsin foe in Concordia University at Hilton Head High School.
