Devils Dominate Singles to Take Down Diplomats

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to claim a 6-3 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.

First-years Sam Coan (Washington, D.C./Bullis School) and Leonid Sorkin (St. Petersburg, Russia/U. of Nebraska H.S.) earned the doubles point, winning the second flight 8-3.

The Diplomats used a pair of 8-7 decisions to take the matches in the first and third flights.

In singles, the Red Devils earned five flights to secure the match. Sorkin and Coan posted straight set wins in the top two singles flights while Justin Pace (Madison, N.J./Daniel Hand) won the third.

The Red Devils added two more wins in the fourth and fifth as sophomore Joey Bolanos (San Salvador, El Salvador/Escuela Americans) won in straight sets and senior Derek Chen (Cranbury Township, Pa./Shady Side Academy) survived in the fifth (2-5, 7-5 (11-9)).

The Red Devils improve to 8-8 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to face Washington College on Thursday and then travel to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
