Red Devils Top Messiah to Move to 13-3

(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team put together a couple of big innings to post a 16-1 win at Messiah College, improving to 13-3 on the season. The game was called due to darkness after the eighth inning.

Messiah struck early, using a double and a single to take a 1-0 lead. The Red Devils tied the game in the third when Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch to set up an RBI single for Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh).

The Red Devils loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and Robby Smith (Fairhaven, Conn./Rumson-Fairhaven) was hit by a pitch to pick up an RBI and put the Red Devils in front, 2-1.

David Farnham (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) singled before Brown reached on a walk. That set up a sacrifice opportunity for Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) but he managed a bunt single to set up Smith's RBI.

Ryan Fuscaldo (Phoenixville, Pa./Haverford School) stepped in a took another for the team as he was hit to score Brown and stretch the lead to 3-1 and Joe Pepe (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) singled in a pair of runs before the Falcons could record an out.

Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) kept the rally going with another single and later Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) doubled in Pepe for a 7-1 advantage.

Messiah loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning but Marcus Thompson (Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills) worked his way out of it without surrendering a run.

The Red Devils erupted again in the eighth as Pell reached on an error, scoring two runs and Brown launched a three-run homer to make the score, 12-1.

Pepe walked to push across another run for the Red Devils and Carter followed up with a base-hit to score two more. Lukas Atsalis (West Hyannisport, Mass./Berkshire School) drove in the final run for the Red Devils with a single.

Carter went 3-for-6 with three RBI while Brown (2-for-4) drove in four runs while scoring a pair as well. Volpe tallied two hits and Pepe scored three runs and drove in three on the day.

Thompson earned the win, recording eight strikeouts in a six-inning effort. Luke Jackson (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) came on for an inning and Cole Benner (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) booked a pair of strikeouts to close in the eighth.

The Red Devils return home to open Centennial Conference play on Saturday, hosting a double-header with Ursinus at 12:00 pm
