Box Score

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson baseball team had a tough outing on Thursday, falling 20-7 at McDaniel College.

The Green Terror jumped out early, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first behind a pair of two-RBI doubles. They tacked on two more in the second with a two-run homer by Antonio Rosanova.

The Red Devils started to chip away in the top of the third, loading the bases before back-to-back RBI singles from seniors Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) and Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) put two runs on the board.

First-year Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) drove in another with a sacrifice fly and Werner came in to score on a failed pick-off to cut the deficit to 11-4, heading into the bottom of the third.

Chris Morris doubled in a run as McDaniel countered with three in the bottom half of the inning to lead, 14-4.

Sophomore Austin Sumners (W. Trenton, N.J./Pennington School) singled and scored on a wild pitch and an error, and Werner knocked in a run with his second hit of the game. McDaniel kept pace, adding two in the bottom on a two-run single from Nick Valori.

Sean Sivo doubled to score two runs as the Green Terror pushed across four in the seventh. Senior Luke Besse (Marston Hills, Mass./Barnstable) stepped in for a pinch-hit triple in the ninth and scored on an RBI from Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) for the final of 20-7.

The Red Devils did produce 15 hits on the afternoon. Werner led the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sumners scored twice and had a pair of hits. Primavera, McCloud and sophomore Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) each added two hits as well.
