(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team came out on top of a heart fought match, knocking off the #12-ranked team in the region, Ursinus College, 5-4 on Saturday.
The Red Devils led 2-1 after doubles, claiming the first and second flights. Lauren Altschuler (Malven, Pa./Eastern) and Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) played to an 8-3 win in the one spot while Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) and Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julien's School) posted a shutout in the second, 8-0.
Emily Sprague (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and Lydia Fox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Arlington) dropped a close match in the third, 9-7.
Altschuler rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the top singles flight. The Bears claimed the second and third flights with Diamond rebounding from a tough first set, but falling 6-1, 7-6 (12-10), in the second.
Nunes and Sprague clinched the match with wins in the fourth and fifth flights. Nunes went 6-1, 6-2 and Sprague battled to a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2 victory.
The Red Devils improve to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears drop their second straight to fall to 6-3 and 0-2 in the conference. The Red Devils return home to host McDaniel College on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
