(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team had a tough draw to open Centennial Conference play, hosting #13-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils played well and challenged the Blue Jays, but the visitors would improve to 3-0 on the season with a 9-0 decision.
Senior Joey Frank (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Boca Raton) won the first set in the top singles flight, 6-3. David Perez answered with a tough, 6-4, second set and then claimed the tie-breaker 10-4. Frank joined Samuel Loring (New York, N.Y./Blair Academy) in the second doubles flight, dropping another close match, 8-5.
Junior Steven Kaplan (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) went three sets, claiming the second, 6-1. Classmate Clark Chapman (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) lost a close match as well, 7-5, 6-3.
Loring had a strong start in singles, winning the opening set, 6-1, but Rob Saad countered with a 6-2 score in the second. They battled through the third-set tie-break with Saad slipping away, 10-8.
The Red Devils slip to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Ursinus College next Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
