(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team played a strong match on Saturday night, finishing in a 1-1 draw with visiting Johns Hopkins University. Despite significant rainfall throughout, the match was well played by both sides, going the full 110 minutes.
Both teams would find the back of the net in the first half to keep the match level. The Red Devils struck first as sophomore Matt Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) redirected a header, off a beautifully served free kick from senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) in the 28th minute.
Almost exactly 10 minutes later, the Blue Jays would capitalize on a hand ball and convert a penalty kick to pull Hopkins even. Samy Ramadane put the ball in the right side of the net, at the 16:16 mark.
The teams would remain scoreless throughout the remainder of the game with solid defense on both sides. Senior Ned Wagner (Washington, D.C./Upper Canada College) anchored a solid defensive effort in the middle, and tallied some strong scoring chances in the attacking third.
Sophomore Chris Pollock (Salem, Va./North Cross) turned in a strong performance in the midfield with junior Austin Thames (Frederick, Md./Urbana) making some strong attacking runs as well.
Junior Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) made five saves in the nets for Dickinson, stopping four shots in the first half.
Bryan See finished with 10 saves, including a pair in the second overtime to preserve the tie.
The Red Devils held the advantage in possession and outshot the Blue Jays, 28-9, on the night. Dickinson threatened on corners as well, holding a 10-2 edge in that category.
Johns Hopkins moves to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Centennial Conference play. The Red Devils stand at 6:2-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the conference. The Devils travel to Misericordia on Wednesday night for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
