CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team saw the best run in program history come to an unfortunate end in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament with a 3-2 loss to the Washington and Lee University Generals in front of a sold-out raucous crowd at Miller Memorial Field. With the win, W&L will advance to their third Final Four in the past four seasons.
- Things started rough for the home side as just 92 seconds in a handball inside the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Generals. Lucas Pleasants stepped up to the spot and sent the shot past DC keeper Aidan George for the 1-0 edge.
- Dickinson tried to answer just over a minute later off a corner kick, but the attempt from Ethan Jarden was shutdown by W&L goalie Will Joseph.
- However, the Red and White did find their equalizer in the 18th minute as a scramble in the box saw Saul Iwowo poke the ball to Timi Omoniwa who found the back of the net.
- The Generals would record the ensuing three shots with Dmitri Tulloch being denied by George, while Weyimi Agbeyegbe and Tulloch had offerings blocked down by the defense.Â
- Following an attempt by Jeremy Sallade that did not make it through to goal, Pleasants would cross a ball into the box that skipped through everyone and past the keeper for a 2-1 at the break.
- Both teams came out firing to begin the period as Westin Fryberger, Mack Moore, Jackson Wolf and Jarden all took shots for the Devils over the first ten minutes, but none of them tested Joseph.
- During that same time W&L would tally three chances of their own, fortunately for Dickinson they too were not able to reach the frame.
- However, in the 62nd minute the Generals found what amounted to be the match winner as a corner played in by Pleasants found the head of PJ Ryan who nodded it over to Jack Travis who kept the headers going by sending it past George for a 3-1 edge.
- The Red and White were not done though as just 11 seconds later they earned a penalty kick of their own. That sent Daniel Spataro to the spot 12 yards away and he rocketed a shot beyond the reach of Joseph making it 3-2.
- Iwowo, Jarden and Fryberger combined for the final four Dickinson shots, but only tasked Joseph with making one more save as the visitors were able to see things out.Â
- Goals - Omoniwa and Spataro (1)
- Shots - Fryberger and Jarden (3)
- Saves - George (2)
