(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team turned in another strong performance on Saturday, posting a 6-3 win at Ursinus College.
The match was moved indoors but that did not affect the Red Devils as they jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles. The Devils carried the momentum into singles, capturing four of the six flights on the day.
Senior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) led the charge, winning at number-one singles (6-2, 6-0) and claiming the top doubles flight with an 8-0 decision. Lavery is now ranked 16th in the latest Intercollegiete Tennis Association, Atlantic South Region poll. Lavery broke into the top-25 with a win over, now 17th-ranked April Weaver (Washington College), last weekend.
Senior Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) joined Lavery for the win in doubles and rolled to a straight set win the third singles flight, 6-1, 6-0.
First-year Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) earned two points on the day as well. She won the fourth singles flight, sweeping straight sets at 6-0, 6-0. She partnered with Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) for an 8-2 victory in third doubles.
Sophomore Dominique Hedderich (Walton, Neb./Choate-Rosemary Hall) scored the final point for the Red Devils with an 8-1 decision in the sixth singles flight.
The Red Devils improve to 3-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to return home and face McDaniel College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
