#17-Red Devils Survive a Thriller at Miller to Remain Unbeaten

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team survived a "Thrilla at Milla" on Saturday afternoon, scoring with just two seconds on the clock in double-overtime to remain unbeaten on the young season. In a battle of top-25 teams, the match was physical from the start and would see four red cards by the end of the game. The #17-ranked Devils would come out on top, posting a 2-1, double-OT win over #25-Carnegie Mellon University.

The final red card came in desperation as junior goaltender Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) was forced to stop a break-away and committed a foul with a strong, but necessary play on the ball in the penalty area. As the last defender, the automatic red sent the Devil goaltender to the sideline.

First-year goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) came on cold to immediately face a penalty kick. Remarkably, the rookie made the save on his first collegiate touch of the ball, saving the game for the Red Devils as well.

Palcan would add another page to a storybook start to his career as he served a free-kick into the box with just seven seconds remaining, allowing Hylton-Dei the opportunity to put the game away for Dickinson.

The Red Devils took an early lead as sophomore Isaac Pitkow (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) found the net, just 4:35 into the contest to put Dickinson on the board. The Tartans tallied the equalizer in the 77th minute when Matt Sarett scored off an assist from Max Tassano to force the overtime.

The visiting Tartans held a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners. Christopher Madden made a pair of saves in goal for Carnegie Mellon.

Milbrath made nine saves on the day while Palcan added the other, very big save in the second OT. The 17th-ranked Red Devils improve to 3-0 on the season while #25-CMU slips to 2-1 overall.

The Red Devils return to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting RIT at 1:00 pm.
