(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Wednesday, posting a 9-0 shutout at McDaniel College.
The Red Devils swept doubles, 8-2, 8-1, 8-0 and surrendered just nine points in singles as they improved to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Junior Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) played in the top singles spot, earning the win (6-0, 6-3). She teamed with first-year Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) for the win at #1-doubles. Diamond posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the second singles spot.
Sophomore Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Dawson School) added a 6-1, 6-0 decision at third singles and joined Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) for the 8-0 win in doubles.
Cantor won at #6 while Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and Dominique Hederrich (Walton, Neb./Choate Rosemary Hall) claimed the fourth and fifth flights (6-0, 6-0) and (6-0, 6-1), respectively, and combined for the win in the second doubles flight.
The Red Devils improved to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in the conference. They continue Centennial Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Bryn Mawr College.
