(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team dropped a twin-bill at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, suffering a 9-3 setback in the opener, and a 2-0 decision in the nightcap.
The Devils scored lone runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) led-off the game with a single and scored on an RBI from Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) to put the Red Devils on the board.
Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) in the second inning.
Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth. He drew a walk, moved to third on a double by Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern), and came in to score on as Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) reached on an error.
The Diplomats got the bats going in the bottom of the fifth, scoring twice on three base-hits and a sacrifice fly. They pushed across three unearned runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 advantage. They added four runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final of 9-3, scoring three unearned runs and one on a double to left center.
Tursi added a double in the eighth to go 2-for-4 while DeVivo and Sanders each recorded two hits in the opener. Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) went seven innings in the start, recording four strikeouts and surrendering just two earned runs. Thomas Galuchie (Upland, Calif./Claremont) came on in the final inning.
More unearned runs led to a 2-0 decision in the nightcap. The Diplomats capitalized on an error, adding two hits and a double to score both runs in the fifth inning.
The Red Devils threatened in the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to plate any runs. DeVivo went 2-for-3 in game two to lead the Devils, offensively.
Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) threw seven solid innings, recording six strikeouts while scattering six hits and allowing just one walk. Senior Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./St. Albans/Mercersburg) came on for one inning of relief.
The Red Devils slip to 11-21 overall and 2-11 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face McDaniel College in a make-up game, tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
