(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team saw a five-run eighth inning lead visiting McDaniel to a 7-2 win here on Tuesday afternoon. The Green Terror broke open a 2-2 tie with seven hits, including a pair of doubles to improve to 16-8 overall and 4-5 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils struck early as senior Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) singled, stole second and came around on an RBI single from classmate Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) in the first inning.
The Terror tied the game in the fourth, using a pair of singles and capitalizing on a Red Devil error. Senior Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) to put Dickinson up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth.
Pitcher James Chiorello doubled in Brandon Hayward in the top of the seventh to bring McDaniel even once again. The Green Terror came alive in the eighth as Jimmy Najera led-off the inning with a double. Following a sacrifice bunt, McDaniel strung together three straight hits en route to a five-run inning to take a 7-2 lead.
The lead would hold as the Devils drop their first game in six outings. They slip to 17-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Rosa' went 2-for-3 at the plate, adding a double and a run while Sterling went 2-for-5 on the day. First-year Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) earned the start on the hill, going six innings, allowing just one run while scattering six hits.
The Red Devils travel to McDaniel on Friday to complete the series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
