(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's tennis team jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held on to defeat host Ursinus, 6-3, on Saturday. The match started outside but moved indoors when the rain became too heavy to continue.
Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W.Va./Huntington) posted an 8-0 win in the top doubles flight to put the Devils on the board. Dominique Hedderich (Walton, Neb.) and Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I.) captured the third flight, 8-2.
Rodgers and Lavery added straight set wins in the top singles flights. Rodgers posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory while Lavery recorded a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
The Bears claimed the third and fourth singles flights but first-year Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Alexander Dawson) and sophomore Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) posted wins in the fifth and sixth singles flights to secure the win.
The Red Devils improve to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
