Devils Rally, Hopkins Holds 5-4

(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson College baseball team had a stronger outing against #16-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, falling 5-4 to the Blue Jays.

 

Junior Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) put the Devils on the board in the second. He led-off the inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single from senior Evan Hennessy (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy).

 

The Blue Jays answered with two in the bottom of the, capitalizing on a pair of walks and a wild pitch. Chris Wilhelm scored for the second time in the game, leading off the fourth with a solo homerun.

 

The Devils pushed across one in the seventh to make the score 3-2. Matt Tuneski (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) singled to start the inning. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hennessy. Tuneski moved to third as Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) singled and then came home on a sacrifice fly to left field by senior Bart Marchant (Lakeville, Conn./Hotchkiss School).

 

Hopkins wasted no time coming back with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Mike Dellinger reached on a single and later scored on an RBI single from Jesse Sikorksi. Aaron Borenstein reached on a walk and later came on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Neverman to put Hopkins up, 5-2.

 

The Devils kept battling, scoring one in the top of the eighth. Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) singled and scored on an RBI single from Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge).

 

Hennessy doubled in the ninth and pinch-runner Conor Foote (Narbeth, Pa/Lower Marian) scored on an RBI single by sophomore James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose)  to pull the Devils within a run, 5-4. The Blue Jays would hold for the final of 5-4.

 

Santoro went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI. Hennessy was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. First-year Will Daley (Benton Harbor, Mich./Lake Michigan Catholic) turned in a solid performance on the mound, holding the Blue Jays to just six hits while striking out four. Keith Bolles (Essex, Conn./Hotchkiss School) came on to record three strikeouts in one inning of relief.

 

The Red Devils slip to 13-10 overall and 0-6 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Gettysburg College on Tuesday for a 3:30 start.
