COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The 17th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team got goals from nine different players, including five from the "hot shooting" and reigning Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Landen Hyatt en route to a dominant 17-6 conference road win over the Ursinus College Bears on Friday night at Patterson Field.
- It would be the home side who got out to the fast start as Lars Homan and Daniel Kupiec tallied within the first three minutes to take a 2-0 lead.
- Dickinson then returned the favor with Ethan Ferrant knocking the ball away from Greg Belville allowing Ramsey Huggins to strike at the other end. Then, after Capp Reynolds tracked down the groundball off a Ben Trucksess faceoff win Huggins found Ethan Gess for the finish past Colin Daroch.
- Daroch a few minutes later was called upon to turn aside a long-pole try from Reynolds.
- Two minutes after that Will Single got on the scoresheet by setting up Gess for his second and a 3-2 lead with 7:03 to go.
- Goalkeepers Rocco Bognet and Daroch were called upon once more to keep the margin at 3-2 going to the second.
- For the second consecutive frame it was the Bears who struck first when Harry Sweitzer cashed in with 1:50 gone.
- Then, the Devils decided to play a little "make it, take it" as faceoff wins by the pair of Ryan Backus and Trucksess led to goals from Owen Porter (unassisted), Tommy Baldini (Mac Childs assist), and Luke Whalen (Gess assist) making it 6-3 stil with 11:30 to go.
- The two sides shared the ensuing four shots with Luke Devlin and Hyatt missing the mark for the Red and White, before Gess setup Hyatt for the finish past Daroch (7-3).
- After another tally from Sweitzer cut it to 7-4, Matt Thurston, Hyatt and Baldini sent the Devils on a three-goal run opening the margin to 10-4 at the 12:18 mark.
- Dickinson continued to push for more heading into halftime, but Daroch had the answer for Joey Wood, Childs and Thurston to keep things where they were at 10-4.
- Both teams had some chances early in the frame, but the keepers were up to the task shutting down Ben Monroe, Sweitzer and Whalen respectively.
- Dickinson would use a stand on the defensive end with 7:26 gone to find their 11th of the day when Reynolds separated Barrett Denlinger from the rock and got it ahead to Whalen for the finish (11-4).
- Ursinus claimed the ensuing draw and got a quick shot off from Sweitzer. Fortunately, for the Red and White his offering pinged the pipe which gave Ferrant a chance to link up with Gess downfield for the 12-4 lead inside of five minutes to play.
- The duo of Ethan Ackerman and Huggins would each force a turnover late in the quarter resulting in Daroch denying Hyatt, but having no answer for Hyatt a second time with Josh Smith finding him in the dying seconds extending the gap to 13-4 after 45 minutes.
- Dickinson immediately made it 14-4 just 21-seconds in when Ferrant claimed the Trucksess faceoff win and hit Hyatt for his fourth.
- Another UC miscue caused by Evan Karetsos resulted in the fifth for Hyatt when he broke into the attack area and ripped it past the keeper.
- Ursinus used the next couple of minutes to record four straight shots leading to two more stops from Bognet.
- At the 7:54 mark the Red and White stretched the advantage to 16-4 when another Karetsos caused turnover led to Charlie Baughan finding Owen Binder for the tally.
- A pair of Sweitzer unassisted markers surrounded a strike from Preston Boyd (Monroe assist) to set the 17-6 final.
