CARLISLE, Pa. - The 16th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team opened the game on a 3-0 run and never looked back as they never relinquished the lead in a massive 9-8 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Franklin and Marshall College at Biddle Field on Wednesday night.
- Dickinson needed just 2:46 to take the lead as Luke Whalen was shutdown by goalie Teddy Scarborough, but the ball worked its way back to Charlie Baughan for the finish.
- About two minutes later it became 2-0 when Capp Reynolds forced a turnover and flipped the ball ahead to Landen Hyatt who connected with Ramsey Huggins.
- The keepers were on full display over the ensuing nine minutes as they combined to make four stops with Rocco Bognet notching one for the Red and White, while Scarborough had the answer for Tommy Baldini, Matt Thurston and Whalen.
- However, the Devils were not done following an offering by Jack Luviano that hit the post with ten seconds left Sam Bunten tracked down the free rock and hit Huggins downfield who in turn stuck a pass to Whalen for the shot and goal at the horn (3-0).
- Following an early save for Scarborough against Huggins, Dillon Mannix worked his way into the offensive end and ripped a shot past Bognet.
- Each goalie would make a stop over the next couple of minutes with Bognet shutting down Ryan Roberts, while Scarborough beat aside a chance by Whalen keeping it at 3-1 with seven minutes gone.
- F&M drew level at 3-3 during the ensuing two minutes thanks to the pair of Kai Kelly and Mannix.
- Dickinson notched the next three shots with Scarborough stopping Hyatt, but then being solved by Huggins at the 11:50 mark.
- Unfortunately, for Dickinson just prior to the end of the frame Jacob Szczepanski found Kelly for the game-tying marker.
- Coming out of the break Ben Trucksess jarred the rock free to Bunten on the faceoff which led to Whalen setting up Baldini to reclaim the lead 5-4 only 47-seconds in.
- Each goalie made a stop over the next minute with Scarborough answering the offering from Luke Devlin, while Bognet denied Eli Crystal.
- Dickinson recorded the next three shots as Scarborough put up a wall against Baldini and Whalen, but was bested by Owen Porter (Baldini assist).
- With six minutes exactly off the clock the 6'8" Preston Blue dumped a shot over the head of Bognet to cut it down to 6-5. However, just 30-seconds after that Reynolds claimed the ball on the faceoff and fed the ball back to Jack Deady who hooked up with Huggins for the finish (7-5).
- Both sides would strike once more in the frame with Kelly and Hyatt cashing in for their respective sides to leave it at 8-6 entering the fourth.
- The Devils added onto their lead only 19-seconds in as Huggins found a cutting Whalen for the finish (9-6).
- After a stop by Scarborough against Matt Thurston, Mason Montrella beat Bognet at the 2:05 mark to close within 9-7.
- F&M would use a strong defensive stand to force a shot clock violation against Dickinson, which allowed Luviano to head back down the field and find the back of the net (9-8) with 9:25 left.
- The visitors continued to push hard recording five of the next six shots, but not calling upon Bognet once as the game entered the final two minutes.
- Coming out of an F&M timeout with about 30-seconds remaining, Montrella was called for stepping in the crease allowing the Red and White to run out the final seconds for the win.
