GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The 17th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse lost a three-goal second quarter lead, but rallied back to tie the game inside the final minute of the fourth quarter against the ninth-ranked Gettysburg College on Wednesday night at Musselman Stadium. However, the Red and White were unable to take advantage of some early chances in the overtime period allowing the home side to claim a 13-12 conference win.
- The Bullets would tally the opening three shots of the game with third the final offering by Jackson Hearn getting past Rocco Bognet for a 1-0 lead.
- Dickinson would immediately respond as Ben Trucksess won the faceoff and got the ball to Landen Hyatt who found Tommy Baldini for the finish beyond the reach of Murphy Hoey.
- Following two saves from Bognet against Jack Dunleavy and Will Hedley, Joey Wood connected with Ethan Ferrant for a long-pole goal and the 2-1 edge at the 5:58 mark. Off another win at "X" by Trucksess, Ramsey Huggins collected the loose ball and buried a shot past Hoey (3-1) just 29-seconds later.
- Each team would force two more saves out of the keepers, while also causing two giveaways each as Bognet and Huggins knocked the rock away for the Devils.
- Dickinson had the last chance of the frame with no time left, but Parker Polgar fired wide of cage.
- Gettysburg needed just 54-seconds to get within one thanks to Jackson Barroll. Off the ensuing faceoff win by Tate Kuster, the home side had a chance to draw even, but Bognet denied Charlie Johnson.
- Two shots each from Mac Childs and Hyatt went off the mark, before Huggins stuffed one into the net making it 4-2 at the 4:06 mark.
- The keepers were on fire over the next three minutes with Bognet shutting down Declan Mack, while Hoey had the answer for Ben Monroe and Huggins (2).
- After a tally from Hearn cut it to 4-3, Huggins and Ethan Gess struck in an 11-second span to send the lead to three (6-3) with 6:24 to play.
- The Bullets notched six of the final seven shots of the period resulting in two markers giving the hosts life at 6-5 heading to the break.
- Gettysburg continued to ride the momentum train over the first two minutes of the period with Patrick Maroney and Stokes Myers giving the Bullets a one-goal margin at 7-6.
- Bognet kept the margin at one by beating aside attempts from Brian Delduchetto and Maroney, while at the other end Barroll added another one to make it 8-6 with 7:22 gone.
- After Hoey denied Gess to preserve the two-goal cushion, Charlie Baughan found Hyatt for a finish. Then, just over a minute later Ferrant got the ball away from Barroll which led to the rock coming to Hyatt for the strike knotting the score 8-8.
- Dickinson would grab the lead almost a minute later with Owen Porter connecting with Hyatt.
- However, Gettysburg knotted things back up through Ethan Kessler, before Trucksess off the following faceoff win linked up with Wood to push DC back ahead 10-9 enter the fourth.
- The opening three minutes saw the defenses on full display as Andy Marquet forced a pair of DC giveaways, while the duo of Josh Smith and Luke Whalen separated two Bullets from the ball.
- With 3:36 gone Gettysburg made it 10-10 with Johnson hooking up with Barroll.
- The teams then traded tallies exactly a minute apart a few minutes later as Whalen gave DC the 11-10 lead, before Myers answered right back for the home side.
- Bognet recorded three more saves to keep the score locked, but Dunleavy eventually broke through for GC to reclaim a 12-11 advantage with 3:30 left.
- The rest of the period was all Dickinson on the attack as they fired the final five shots of the game with Whalen scoring unassisted with a minute left to tie things up. However, his bid to win the game at the 14:55 mark was turned away by Hoey forcing overtime.
- The Devils had the chance to win the game on the opening possession, unfortunately, the chance by Huggins was saved.
- That gave the Bullets an opportunity as they recoded three straight shots, but Bognet made two stops and watch one sail wide.
- After another stop from Hoey on Hyatt, Kessler went back down the field and found the back of the cage for the 13-12 win.
