CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's tennis team got back to their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon by holding off a late push from the visiting Bryn Mawr College Owls to pick up a 4-3 Centennial Conference win at the Hays Tennis Courts.
Doubles (Owls 3-0)
Bryn Mawr put the Devils behind early 1-0 after claiming all three matches. First, the top pair of
Jenna Crain and
Natasha Sharnoff suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado. The other two duos of
Alisa Steele and
Loretta Szych (2nd) as well as
Izzy Desjardins and
Chloe Heller (3rd) dropped identical 6-4 decisions.
Singles (DEVILS 4-2)
The Red and White kicked off the singles portion of the match with a "W" thanks to Crain and her 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Fenster. Dickinson went ahead 2-1 when Sharnoff knocked off Kelli Eng by the same 6-2, 6-1 margin. At the fourth spot, Heller took down Hurtado 6-4, 6-4 to make it 3-1 in the team score. Steele clinched the match victory by putting away Lowrey West in the second flight (6-4, 6-0). Unfortunately, DC would take losses at the fifth and six lines as Szych could not hold off Claire Emanuel, while
Anabelle Armendarez dropped a three-setter to Carina Roberts.
