CARLISLE, Pa. - The 17th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team got five goals from
Landen Hyatt and got nine stops between the pipes by
Josef Zyngier to help end their three-game skid with a solid 15-8 win in their Centennial Conference opener over the visiting Washington College Shoremen at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.
- Dickinson came out firing away as Tommy Baldini, Ethan Gess and Hyatt racked up six shots in the opening three minutes, before Mac Childs would solve Colin Gray for the 1-0 lead.
- A two minute penalty to Patrick Rodgers off the ensuing faceoff win for Ben Trucksess gave the Red and White the opportunity to strike twice on the power play thanks to Carter Wilmot (Gess assist) and Hyatt (Gess assist) making it 3-0 with 5:17 gone.
- The visitors finally struck on their ensuing possession through Cam Carrigan, but a few minutes later the Devils responded when Jack Deady knocked the ball away from Reeve Hargrave which allowed Jamie Book to find Joey Wood in transition for the finish and the 4-1 advantage.
- After a stop by Zyngier on Jack Dupuis, Hyatt got to the ground ball and found Gess who in turn put the rock in the stick of Hyatt to stretch the gap to 5-1 heading to the second.
- Washington cut the deficit by two without even three minutes coming off the clock on tallies from Tom Merritt and Cory Morgan.
- A wide shot by Nate Winters that was backed up by the Devils set the stage for goal number six with Baldini finding Gess, before a faceoff win by Trucksess led to Ramsey Huggins skipping the ball to Hyatt who ripped a shot past Gray to open the margin up to 7-3 with exactly four minutes gone.
- Another Zyngier save on Morgan allowed for Will McDonald to run down a ground ball and give the same duo of Huggins and Hyatt the ability to cash in again (8-3).
- Dickinson continued to fire away taking six of the next seven shots as Zyngier shutdown Grant Matthews, while Hyatt struck at the other end for a 9-3 advantage.
- Jack Schutte tried to collect another tally for DC after Domani White claimed the faceoff, but Gray was up to the task which gave Carrigan the chance to get the gap to 9-4 going to the break.
- The Red and White pushed it to 10-4 just a dozen seconds in when Evan Karetsos connected with Huggins for the finish past Gray.
- Strikes from Dickinson and Matthews surrounded an unassisted marker for Baldini over the next two minutes to leave it at 11-6 with 12:22 left.
- Dickinson tried to extend their lead with shots by Luke Devlin, Parker Polgar, Childs and Gess, but none of them bested Gray.Â
- At the other end of the after a save by Zyngier on Hargrave, Dickinson claimed the rebound and stuck it back in the cage to bring the Shoremen to within 11-7 with 7:52 gone.
- Over the remainder of the period Gray would make two stops on Hyatt and one on Sam Bunten to keep the lead at 11-7. However, after Zyngier denied Morgan, Wilmot setup Gess for the finish with just 16 seconds left to leave it 12-7 with a period to go.
- Zyngier continued to have a memorable debut by shutting down Brian Blanche at the 29-second, which led to Childs burying the rock 40 ticks later for a 13-7 advantage.
- A 30-second push on Blanche with 3:09 gone gave way to Ryan Banaciski hammering a man-up goal to the back of the net.
- The remainder of the period saw each keeper make two saves and each team cash in once with Logan Trombley scoring for WAC, while Charlie Baughan found Wilmot for the Devils 15th and the 15-8 final.
