WELCOME to CARLISLE! Maggie Sohns Chosen to Lead Red Devils Field Hockey

8CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson College Director of Athletics Celine Cunningham is proud to announce the hiring of Maggie Sohns as the new head coach of the Red Devils Field Hockey program.

"We are thrilled to welcome Maggie Sohns as the next head coach of Dickinson field hockey" said Cunningham. "Maggie's passion for the game, dedication to student-athlete development and vision for competitive success make her the ideal leader for our program. Her experience as both a high-level athlete and her previous experience in the Centennial Conference will certainly elevate our team and continue the strong tradition of Dickinson Field Hockey."

Sohns expressed her excitement for the opportunity saying "the timing is right to make this move to Dickinson, because of the strong commitment the athletic department has in promoting success, whether that be on the field or anywhere else." She went on to add "There is a tremendous support system at Dickinson that allows for there to be an environment where a first-time head coach like myself feels like they can make an immediate impact."

Sohns arrives in Carlisle after spending the last two seasons as the assistant coach at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. During her two years with the Ducks she aided them in winning a pair of Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference (MAC) titles and advancing to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She helped to coach numerous all-conference honorees, including the MAC Rookie of the Year in 2023 as well as four all-region selections over the 2024 campaign. With Stevens, she helped to oversee all aspects of the offense, in addition to being heavily involved in film breakdown and recruiting.

Prior to her stint at Stevens, Sohns served as the graduate assistant and ultimately being named the interim head coach at fellow Centennial Conference institution McDaniel College from 2021 to 2023. With the Green Terror, she assisted in all areas of the program, including organizing and running practices, creating the team budget, organizing travel, fundraising and communicating with various alumni groups.

Sohns, a 2019 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University (Florham campus), played four seasons with the Devils appearing in 91 games starting all of them tallying 19 goals and 31 assists for 69 points to go along with 255 shots (137 on target). The three-time MAC Freedom Conference First Team selection was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region Team two and was tabbed as an All-American following the 2019 season. The 2019 MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year helped FDU-Florham to a pair of MAC Freedom Conference titles in 2018 and 2019 advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

"I want the Dickinson fan base, alumni and supporters to know that it is a privilege to take on this role. This program has a rich history and I am looking forward to continuing the dedication of excellence on and off the field, the team trust and unity is vital to our future success, and the lasting positive impact I am hoping to make on the team's development" said Sohns. "Dickinson is an exciting place for me to continue my coaching career and I cannot wait to get started!"

Sohns begins her Dickinson career next Monday, March 3rd.
