HISTORY MADE! Devils Blank Hornets to Advance to Sweet 16 For First Time Ever

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Sophomore goalkeeper Aidan George set the Dickinson record for most cleansheets in a single season at eight on the "grandest stage of all" Sunday evening as he guided a stellar defensive effort for the Red and White en route to a 2-0 win over the host University of Lynchburg Hornets in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at Shellenberger Field. The win propels the Red and White onto the "Sweet 16" for the first time in program history.
Template - 1st Half
  • Both sides were putting on a defensive clinic for the opening 20-plus minutes as neither team could record a shot against keepers Aidan George and Thomas Viscuso.
  • Dickinson made the first attempt of the match count in the 24th minute when Nicholas Dwamena served in a corner that dropped inside the mixer within the six-yard box where Saul Iwowo poked the ball past Viscuso for the 1-0 lead.
  • The backlines continued to be on full display following the marker as neither side was able to tally another shot the remainder of the half.
Template - 2nd Half
  • It would only take five minutes to see the opening chance of the period as Daniel Spataro was shutdown by Viscuso.
  • The next time there was a shot it would see the Red and White make it 2-0 with 59:18 gone as a long-ball played out by Johnny Diederich came to the feet of Iwowo down the right side. He dribbled away before sliding a pass back to the rushing Diederich who slipped a shot past Viscuso.
  • Lynchburg's first shot of the match came in the 64th when George denied Keaton Napior, before beating away a chance by Zach Whelan ten minutes later.
  • The Hornets would add three more shots, but the Devils defense did not let any of them test George.
  • George would punctuate his record-breaking moment with just over 30-seconds left as he denied Benjamin Velasquez to seal up the match.
