#6 Devils Use Late Penalty to Share Spoils With Garnet

CARLISLE, Pa. - First-year Timi Omoniwa made his fourth goal of the year a memorable one, as he converted from the penalty spot with less than three minutes remaining in the match to secure a pivotal Centennial Conference point against the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet, as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday.
Template - 1st Half
  • The Devils had the Garnet completely penned up early on as Saul Iwowo, Ethan Jarden, Daniel Spataro and Omoniwa combined for six shots over the opening 20 minutes forcing one save from Christian Bignotti.
  • However, Dickinson's attack was finally rewarded with 23:34 gone when Goffrey Ogenrwot slid a pass across the box to Iwowo who slipped a shot past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
  • Then, in the 37th-minute the ball rolled out of play for what appeared to be a throw-in. However, it was ultimately determined to be a corner which the Garnet would take full advantage of as Anzel Zhen's long ball found the head of Adrien Marcelli who sent a looping header over Aidan George to tie things up on their first shot.
  • Each side added one more shot in the frame, but neither Iwowo or Zhen could find the mark.

  • With just over five minutes gone George had the answer for a shot from Tejas Sarna. Unfortunately, he got a second crack at it just a few minutes later as Toshiro Kenney set him up for the finish past George.
  • The Red and White immediately tried to respond with both Luke Finkielstein and Iwowo tasking Bignotti to make a stop, while Nicholas Dwamena and Jarden each sent an attempt off the mark.
  • DC continued to be on the front-foot and put the Swarthmore defense under immense pressure as Jeremy Sallade and Jarden forced two more saves out of the keeper as he was able to hold onto the slim 2-1 edge with the match entering the final ten minutes.
  • The Garnet finally were able to get moving into the attack looking for an insurance marker, but George turned away Marcelli, while Shlok Kaul missed wide right.
  • Dickinson finally got rewarded for all their effort in the 88th-minute when a handball whistled in the box against Marcelli resulted in a penalty kick. Omoniwa confidently grabbed the ball and stepped up to the spot to take the shot. He fired to Bignotti's right as the keeper dove the opposite direction setting the final score.
