CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson women's lacrosse sophomore midfielder
Faith Parker notched the game-tying free-position goal with 40-seconds left only to have Isabela Bloomquist bury the game-winner at the 1:40 mark of overtime to give the visiting Swarthmore College a 12-11 Centennial Conference win at Biddle Field.
The first quarter would belong to the away side as they would tally six times in the opening 15-minutes. Just 46-seconds into the contest Cassidy Marquis beat
Peyton VanDorpe, before
Delaney Herbert went in search of an immediate equalizer only to be stopped by Helen Stafford. After Bloomquist pushed it to 2-0 another Stafford save this time on
Emma Wynne held the score where it was, until Riely Kuehn setup
Liv Yeagle to put the Red and White on the board at 2-1 with 9:17 left. Just over a minute later Stafford prevented Herbert from bringing DC level, allowing Sophie Finkelstein to go back down the field for the finish and the 3-1 edge. The next three minutes went by scoreless, until Francesca Richardson and Bloomquist scored on the consecutive shots to open up a 5-1 lead and force not only a Devils timeout, but a goalie change as well with
Ella Marks coming in between the pipes. The Garnet would add one more with six-seconds remaining to take a commanding 6-1 lead to the second.
Dickinson recorded the only two shots over the first five minutes of the period with Wynne sending an offering wide, before getting one past Stafford to make it 6-2. Two straight saves by Marks allowed DC to seize momentum as
Liz Barroll scored and unassisted free-position tally, prior to finding
Bella Guckes for the finish and closing the gap down to 6-4 with 8:10 remaining. The next three shots belonged to the Garnet with one sliding past Marks for the 7-4 advantage at the 8:29 mark. Dickinson then flipped the script back around on the visitors with blasts by Barroll and Herbert missing the target, while
Gabby Guadalupe and Yeagle brought the Red and White to within 7-6 at the break.
Stafford was once again on display in the early part of the third denying Yeagle twice. However, the Devils were not to be denied as a yellow card issued to Richardson led to Parker ripping the back of the net to finally come all the way back to even at 7-7 with 7:50 left. Each keeper notched one more save in the period, while Finkelstein reclaimed the advantage for the guests 8-7 with just 15-minutes to play.
Dickinson kickstarted the fourth with a bang as draw control wins by
Caroline Pirone and Parker, resulted in back-to-back unassisted strikes from Parker to put the Devils on top for the first time on the day at 9-8 inside the first minute. Unfortunately, for DC a minute later Finkelstein had an answer off a dish from Richardson. A save by Stafford on Parker, led to Marks returning the favor as she shutdown Richardson. That allowed for
Caroline Tone to track down the loose ball and find Barroll who hit Yeagle for the 10-9 advantage with 8:01 off the clock. However, once again the Garnet had a quick answer thanks to Finkelstein less than a minute later. The two sides shared the next six shots, before Bloomquist took advantage of a free-position chance to give SC the 11-10 edge. This time it would be Dickinson who cashed in on a free-position with Paker skipping one past Stafford to tie the game and force overtime.
Swarthmore claimed the opening draw through Annabel Stifler and then watched DC go player-down when a yellow card was handed to Herbert. That would allow the Garnet to produce the game-winner when Emma Holub hit Bloomquist who beat Marks for the 12-11 final.
