HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Dickinson men's tennis team found success in the doubles, but could not hold on in the tightly contested singles matches as the Red and White suffered a 6-3 defeat to Lake Forest College on Tuesday evening at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.
Doubles (Devils 2-1)
The third pair of
Florian Anderson and
DJ Finnell brought down Kyle Lassen and Eduard Manuitt by a score of 8-3, while the second team of
Garrick Adams and
Will Lewis were too much for George Ciuca and Ian Villardi Venturi winning 8-5.
Thomas Griffin and
Levi Veleanu were able to take three games off the top Foresters unit, but could not secure the match.
Singles (Foresters 5-1)
The lone Devils win came at the number two spot where Griffin had to rally back from a set down to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win. Two other matches went the full distance as Lewis took a one set edge against Villardi Venturi, but dropped the second 6-4 before falling in a hard-fought 11-9 tiebreak. Finnell and Lassen exchanged the first two sets, prior to the Forester grabbing a 10-8 victory in the super tiebreaker. Adams (1st), Anderson (6th) and Veleanu (3rd) each dropped a straight set decision to allow Lake Forest to lock up the win.
Next on the Court
Dickinson (2-3) takes a day to rest up before returning to action on Thursday afternoon against Asbury University from Kentucky at 12:30pm at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis.
