CARLISLE, Pa. – The Dickinson men's soccer team opened play up on Wednesday evening against the visiting Hood College looking to snap a three-match goal-less run. It would take 35-plus minutes, but the Red and White finally found a breakthrough thanks to
Saul Iwowo which opened up the floodgates for a 4-0 non-conference win at Miller Memorial Field.
The Devils were on the attack early as
Ethan Jarden and Iwowo combined for four shots within the opening five minutes, but were unable to test Hood keeper Nick Humphries. After an offering from
Luke Finkielstein went high, James Endicott fired twice towards the DC net which did not task
Nick Potter with making a save as the match stayed scoreless into the 15th.
Cole Jennings during the 19th minute had a shot blocked by the defense, while Iwowo forced Humphries to record his first save on the day with 31:02 off the clock. Dickinson finally cracked the scoreboard in the 36th minute as a foul by Carlos Morales in the box led to a penalty kick for the home side. Iwowo stepped up to the spot and delivered the Devils first goal in over 300 minutes for the 1-0 lead. That just opened the scoring for the Red and White as 30-seconds later
Giorgio Gayleard found Iwowo for the Brace, followed by
Luke Beiles setting up
Colin Hofmann to stretch the margin to 3-0 with 40:21 gone. Hofmann went in search of his brace just before the break, but Humphries shut the door to send the game to the half.
Dickinson continued their offensive attack against the Hood backline to begin the second period as they earned three corners and recorded attempts from
Jackson Wolf and Iwowo that were both stopped by the keeper. Then in the 55th, Endicott called upon DC goalie
Nick Potter for the first time, but he was up to the task. It would take until the 73:11 mark for Jackson Quenzer to tally the next shot for Hood, fortunately, it went wide right past new Devils keeper
Thomas Sniezek. However, the home side made their next chance count two minutes later as Hofmann picked up another point by finding
Vincenzo Randazzo for the finish an the 4-0 advantage. There would be just one other shot in the match which came off the boot of
Caleb Crawley with 87:23 gone, but it was snuffed out by the Blazers defense to set the final result.
