Devils Downed in Fall Opener by Dutchmen

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's tennis began their fall slate of action with a hard fought 6-3 setback against the visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen on Friday afternoon at the Hays Tennis Courts.

Doubles (LVC 2-1)
The Red and White picked up their lone win in the doubles portion of the match at the number one slot where the pair of Garrick Adams and Will Lewis earned an 8-4 victory against Justin Scheutz and Adam Warren. The second duo of DJ Finnell and Levi Veleanu hung tough, but fell short 8-4 to Jeffrey Bauer and Brendan Byler. First-year Spencer Goodman was paired with Thomas Griffin in his first collegiate match at third doubles. However, they were edged out by Jesse Beck and Jacob Erb by an 8-5 margin.

Singles (LVC 4-2)
Goodman continued his solid afternoon at six singles where he came back from a set down to knock off Michael Scheutz by scores of 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. The Devils other victory came from Veleanu as he was too much for Warren to handle putting him away in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Finnell had to go three sets with Beck at the fourth slot, unfortunately he was unable to build on a 6-4 second set win falling 4-6, 6-4, 2-6. Lewis was in a nip-and-tuck battle with Bauer at third singles having to go to the tiebreaker in each set, but ultimately coming up just short 6-7 (7-1) and 6-7 (7-6). Adams playing at number one singles dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision to J. Scheutz, while Matt Presite fell 1-6, 1-6 against Byler in the fifth spot.
