Yeagle Nets Five, but Devils Fall to #8 Bullets

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson women's lacrosse junior Liv Yeagle scored a career-high five goals, but it was not enough as the Red and White fell short of the eighth-ranked Gettysburg College Bullets by a final of 22-10 on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field in a Centennial Conference clash.

Gettysburg was off and running early in the game as the visitors scored three times in the opening 1:45 with Jordan Basso, Gabi Connor, and Caroline Sullivan all beating Ella Marks. Dickinson finally had a chance to gain the offensive zone with three minutes off the clock as Liz Barroll missed the cage before Faith Parker put the ball behind Shannon Twill. Almost two minutes later the Devils added another one with Parker starting a transition opportunity after forcing a turnover leading to Yeagle's first of the day. Tallies from Jenna King and Maddi Seibel pushed the margin back to 5-2. However, after a draw control win from Delaney Herbert, Gabby Guadalupe found a cutting Yeagle for her second. The final six minutes belonged to the Bullets as they recorded six consecutive shots resulting in three goals and two Marks saves to make it 8-3 through one.

Marks was tested right off the bat to begin the second as she turned aside Kelly O'Connor just 40-seconds in. The Red and White made their first chance of the period count when Yeagle caused a turnover on the defensive end before ultimately completing her hat trick off a nice dish from Emma Wynne. Once again though Gettysburg had the answer scoring on their next three shots extending the advantage to 11-4 with 10:38 to go. DC tried to respond, but Regan Kawa and Wynne both sent shots wide of Gill Cortese who took over between the pipes. Both teams would find the net once again with Cecily Stabler scoring for GC and Kawa cashing in a pass from Barroll just 44-seconds apart making it 12-5. Unfortunately for the Red and White, they would be held shotless over the last 6:30, while the Bullets added five more for a 17-5 edge at the break.

Dickinson recorded the first shot of the third with 1:04 off the clock when Wynne had her attempt shutdown by another new Bullets keeper in Emma Ortiz. Marks responded with consecutive stops against Charlotte Lacey and King, which lead to Herbert putting away the Devils first free-position chance of the afternoon. After GC added another goal off the ensuing draw, Yeagle picked up her own rebound off an Ortiz save and deposited the ball to the back of the cage. She then buried her fifth of the contest at the 12:09 mark to pull within 18-8. The Bullets took advantage of one of their three consecutive free-position shots at the end of the period to head to the fourth up 19-8.

Juliette Devarenne was the final keeper the visitors threw at the Dickinson attack and she was immediately bested by Herbert. After Marks made her 11th and final stop of the game Christina McLoughlin picked up the loose ball and forced a free-position shot at the other end of the field. Kawa stepped up and fired the rock into the cage to make it 20-10 with 8:53 remaining. Gettysburg added two more over the remainder of the game while Devarenne made two stops against Syd MacKeigan and one versus Riley Kuehn to set the 22-10 final.
