Box Score 2 CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team got a walkoff single from Brooke Espenshade in game one for a 2-1 victory, before falling in the nightcap 6-2 to the visiting Muhlenberg College Mules on Tuesday evening at Dickinson Park.
Game One - DEVILS 2, Muhlenberg 1
Pitching Decision
W - Lindsay Kucker (4-5) | L - Justine Bergara (3-2)
Inside the Game
Muhlenberg got their lone run right off the jump against Kucker as a walk followed by a single put runners on the corners. Then after a strikeout and popout, Gillian Zack drew a walk which led to the run coming home as ball four skipped past the Devils backstop for a 1-0 lead.
The pitchers took over during the next three innings as neither team was able to mount any kind of threat as the score stayed 1-0 heading to the fifth. Kucker gave up a two-out walk, but nothing came of it sending the game to the home-half. Hannah Brenner reached on an error and Celia Vinacco singled to leave runners on the corners for Hannah Seburn with two down. Unfortunately, she flew out to right to retire the side.
Dickinson tried again in the bottom of the sixth as Paige Hahn and Espenshade singled with one gone, but Zoe Kleeblatt flew out and Brenner popped up to move things to the seventh.
With the Red and White down to their final three outs Bergara took over in the circle for Raya Kunes. Vinacco reached on a fielder's choice, Seburn singled, and Kucker worked a free pass to load the bases for Hahn. She ripped a base hit to left plating Vinacco, followed by Espenshade knocking the ball to center scoring Seburn and walking the game off 2-1.
Game Two - Muhlenberg 6, DEVILS 2
Pitching Decision
W - Cora Bridgers (3-6) | L - Riley Kuehn (4-7)
Inside the Game
Kuehn had been dominant through the first three innings for the Red and White and was finally helped out during the home-half of the third as Seburn reached on a fielder's choice after Vinacco was forced out at second. The next batter was Kucker and she split the gap in right-center to score Seburn for the 1-0 lead. Dickinson tried to add on with two on and two out, but Kleeblatt flew out to center.
Muhlenberg got even in the top of the fourth when Genna Cicchetti provided a sac fly scoring Sabrina Reichelt who had singled to begin the frame. Bridgers did exactly what you want to do during the opposition's next at-bat as she retired the Red and White in order.
Kuehn ran into big trouble in the sixth as she got the leadoff hitter to groundout, before allowing four straight hits scoring two runs and making it 3-1. Kucker then took the ball from her teammate and gave up three runs thanks to a double and a two-run error to give the visitors a 6-1 edge going to the seventh.
Dickinson tried to mount a furious two-out rally in the seventh with Vinacco reaching on an infield single, prior to an RBI triple for Seburn to trim the gap to 6-2. However, Kucker popped up to short to end the game.
