Box Score 2 CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team continued their recent theme of late-inning heroics by getting a walk-off infield single by Hannah Seburn to take game one 5-4 in eight innings, before coming up just short of the sweep in game two falling 5-4 against the Wilson College Phoenix on Thursday afternoon at Dickinson Park.
Game One - DEVILS 5, Wilson 4 (F/8)
Pitching Decisions
W - Lindsay Kucker (1-2) | L - Megan Potter (4-2)
Inside the Game
Kucker allowed a leadoff single to Alyssa Wenger and watched her reach third later in the frame, before getting Taylor Barker to strikeout for the final out. The Red and White would go down in order against Potter in the home-half.
The Phoenix had another runner get to third with two out, but another strikeout for Kucker retired the side. Dickinson put their first two batters on during the bottom of the second as Kucker reached on an error, followed by an infield single for Paige Hahn. A popout brought Brooke Espenshade to the dish and she ripped a single to left for the 1-0 lead after two.
DC kept the lead going to the fourth, but after a walk to Naomi Butterfield along with a single for Meghan Bradley put runners on the corners with one gone. With Jessica Kosheba in the box, a passed ball plated Butterfield. A groundout then scored Bradley to give Wilson a 2-1 edge going to the bottom-half of the frame. Dickinson got that run right back as Kucker began things with a triple before Espenshade smoked a two-bagger to center to tie the score heading to the fifth.
Both teams added one in the fifth as with two out and a runner on second Barker doubled to drive home the run. Kucker then got Butterfield to flyout to left to retire the side. Hannah Brenner started out DC's turn with a knock to center, before being moved up on a sac bunt by Jen Klepfer. That brought Devon Kueny to the dish and she knotted the score with a single back up the box. Potter settled down to get the next two runners to end the threat.
Neither side could mount a rally in the sixth or the seventh leading to bouns softball. Alecia Hamilton was placed on second to begin the eighth and after a groundout as well as a single runners were on the corners for Bradley. She lifted one to center that was deep enough to plate Hamilton. Dickinson started their crack with Kueny on second. In stepped Celia Vinacco who blasted a triple over the right-fielder to drive in one. Seburn then produced an infield single which allowed Vinacco to hustle home for the win.
Game Two - Wilson 5, DEVILS 4
Pitching Decisions
W - Naomi Butterfield (1-3) | L - Lindsay Kucker (0-3)
Inside the Game
Six of the total nine runs scored came in the second inning. Barker began things with a single, followed by Bradley reaching on an error. Then, after a popup and a strikeout, Hamilton drew a walk to fill the bags for Haley Privett. During her at-bat Devils starter, Riley Kuehn uncorked a wild pitch to force in one. The bases would reload once Privett drew a walk, which was then followed by a free pass to plate Wenger for the 2-0 lead. Dickinson went to work in the home-half against Butterfield trying to answer back and got off to a good start with a single from Zoe Kleeblatt and a walk to Emma Glosson with one gone. The Red and White tied the game with the next two hitters Klepfer along with Kueny providing run-scoring hits. With players at second and third Seburn came up with another infield hit to make it 3-2 Devils, which was followed by a knock for Kucker to plate Kueny for the 4-2 edge through two.
Butterfield and Kuehn locked things down over the next four frames allowing just a combined three base runners and no runs. Wilson went into the seventh needing at least two to keep things going and were down to their final out with a runner on second. Jenna Carty pulled the Phoenix to within one with a base hit to center. That led to Kucker taking over in the circle and she gave up a knock to Katy Roth. Bradley stepped into the box and sent a double to left driving in both runners for the 5-4 lead going to the last of the seventh. Unfortunately, for the Red Devils Butterfield set them down in order to end the game.
