Softball Claims Nine Inning Nightcap to Force Split

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team worked overtime to force a split at Haverford College on Saturday. The 'Fords scored a lone run in the opener to take a 1-0 decision before the Red Devils came away with a 3-2 win in the ninth of game two.

Haverford used a pair of singles and a sacrifice to score the lone run in the bottom of the third inning.

Sophomore Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) went 2-for-3 and stole a base in the opener. Senior Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) held the 'Fords to just four hits while striking out three.

Gutpelet led-off game two with a triple and put the Red Devils on the board on a single from Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) in the top of the first inning.

Junior Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) was hit by a pitch in the third inning. She came in to score with a help of a pair of passed balls and a ground out to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Haverford answered with one run in the bottom of the third and used a pair of doubles in the fifth to plate the equalizer.

The teams went scoreless until the Red Devils capitalized in the top of the ninth. Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson). Seburn moved to third and then scored on a pair of wild pitches to give the Devils the win and the split as they remain in first place in the Centennial Conference.

Siecinski went 2-for-4 while Lindsey Keller (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added a pair of hits as well in the nightcap.

Milaszewski came on to throw three innings and earn the win behind three strikeouts in a one-hit effort. Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) had a strong start, going four innings before Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) came on relief to strikeout out four and allow just one hit in two innings.

The Red Devils improve to 15-13 overall and move to 8-2 in the conference. They return home to host Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
