(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a heartbreaker in the nightcap as Washington College swept a Friday double-header in Chestertown. The Shorewomen won the opener, 7-1, and escaped with a 2-1 decision in game two.
Taylor Harcum tripled and scored in the first inning of game one to put the hosts on the board. She tallied two RBIs in the second to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Senior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) singled and scored on a base-hit from Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) in the fourth inning.
Harcum added another RBI in the bottom of the fourth as Washington pushed across two runs on four hits to lead 5-1. They added lone runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the final of 7-1.
Lane went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Red Devils at the plate.
Sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) tossed a great game in the nightcap but errors would cost the Red Devils in the seventh inning.
Lane led off the fifth and scored on an RBI from Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) to put Dickinson in front, 1-0.
A double, single and an error allowed Washington to pull even in the bottom of the inning. Leah Stokes singled and moved around on error. She would come in to score on another Devil miscue as the Shorewomen claimed the nightcap, 2-1.
Milaszewski recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the effort.
The Red Devils slip to 8-20 overall and 4-6 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg College on Tuesday for a 3:00 pm double-header.
