Softball Sweeps Haverford to Open Conference Play

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team had a great start in Centennial Conference play, sweeping a pair of games from defending conference champion, Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils rallied to score four runs in the top of the fifth inning to overtake the hosts, 4-3, in the opener. They tallied four runs in the fifth of game two as well to secure a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Haverford scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead in game one. The Red Devils erased the deficit and went in front with four straight hits, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley).

Senior Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) went 4-for-4 in the opener while Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) added a run scored and an RBI while Maureen Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had an RBI single as well.

Sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) claimed the win, allowing five hits while recording seven strikeouts.

The Red Devils struck first in game two as first-year Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) reached on a bunt single and came in on an RBI rip from Torlincasi in the third inning.

Kendall Chambers doubled and Emily Gorman added a two RBI single as Haverford pulled in front with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Devils answered right back, scoring four again in the fifth. Ashley Whitson (Buchanan, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) reached on a bunt single to set the stage for a two-run homer off the bat of Torlincasi.

Clayton doubled to score Parise and Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) tallied an RBI single to put Dickinson up, 5-3.

A leadoff walk led to a run in the bottom of the fifth to pull the 'Fords within a run. Sophomore Rachel Brenowitz (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) doubled and scored on an RBI from Whitson in the sixth inning for the final of 6-4.

Torlinasi led the way again with three RBIs on two hits while Parise and Kueny each had a pair of hits. Whitson went 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored in the nightcap.

Milaszewski went four innings to earn her second win of the day in the circle to improve to 4-7 on the year. Junior Emily Rosenberg (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) came on for three innings, earning the save behind one hit and three strikeouts.

The Red Devils start conference play 2-0 and improve to 5-11 overall. They return home to host Gettysburg College in a double-header on Tuesday. The first pitch is set for 5:00 pm.
