(Tucson, Ariz.) – The #24-ranked Central College (Iowa) softball team jumped out to an early lead and topped Dickinson, 15-0, on Monday afternoon in Arizona at the Tucson Invitational. Wisconsin-Lacrosse held off the Red Devils, 5-2, in the second game of the day.
Central improved to 4-1 on the season while Mariah Fritz moved to 2-0, recording a three-hit shutout behind five strikeouts.
Paige Dickel had a three-run double in the first inning and went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored to lead way offensively.
Wisconsin-Lacrosse scored once in the first inning and took a 3-0 lead at the end of the third in the Devils' second game of the day.
Dickinson answered with two runs in the fourth. Singles from Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) and a sacrifice bunt from Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) put runners on second and third.
Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) beat out a bunt as Epstein came in the score. Parise crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing).
The Eagles answered with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning and held on for a 5-2 decision.
Lane led the Red Devils at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored while Epstein went 2-for-3 on the day.
The Red Devils slip to 2-4 overall. They return to action on Tuesday, facing Mayville State and Dickinson State.
