Box Score (Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team had a great start at Muhlenberg, winning the first set, but the Mules rallied for a 3-1, Centennial Conference win.
The Red Devils claimed the opening set, 25-18 and battled in the second before the hosts slipped away, 28-26, to tie the match.
The first set was back-and-forth at the start as the teams traded leads to an 8-8 tie. The Devils strung together four straight points to pull in front, 12-8, forcing a Muhlenberg timeout. The Devils went up, 15-9, on a big kill from Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).
The Devils put together a run in the first, closing out a great rally to lead 20-12. Ahern had another kill as Dickinson secured the first set.
The second set saw some great rallies and some outstanding blocking from Ahern and junior Anastasiya Khlopina (St. Petersburg, Russia). Senior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) came up with a huge dig that led to a tie at 22-22.
The Devils came out of a timeout and tied the match at 26. After an amazing rally, Muhlenberg went up 27-26 and earned the next point to even the match, 1-1.
Dickinson led 15-13 in the third but the Mules went on a run to lead 20-15. The hosts pulled in front, 2-1, taking the set 25-17. Muhlenberg led 12-10 in the fourth set and went on another scoring run to lead 19-12. They closed out the match, surviving some great rallies for a 25-13 decision.
Junior Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) led the attack with 11 kills, adding a solo block and three block assists. Ahern reached double-figures with 10 kills, adding three block assists.
Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) tallied eight kills and 14 digs while Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) chipped in with eight kills.
Misrok finished with 26 digs, adding three assists. She moves into fourth on the career digs list, raising her total to 1,138. Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) dished out 20 assists, adding four digs and two kills. Leah Guzick (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) added 13 assists and five digs.
The Mules improve to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Red Devils are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Keystone College for a 2:00 pm start.
