CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team gave the conference-leading and third-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays all they could handle on Wednesday night inside the Kline Center, but ultimately suffered a 3-1 setback in Centennial Conference action.
- The visitors got off to a quick 6-5 lead with Emery Fishbach and Amelia Kim accounting for the hosts offense.
- Dickinson used kills for Lora Flynn, Mallie Thomas and Kim to snag a slim 9-8 edge.
- After the teams shared the next six points, Simrin Carlsen and Brooklyn Pater tallied six in a row to jump ahead 17-12.
- A score each for Flynn, Kim and Thomas trimmed the gap to 20-17, but Simone Adam pushed it back to 22-17.
- Three kills for Kim along with an ace by Willow Palmer pulled it back to 23-21, before an error and Pater set the 25-21 final.
- Alexa Barowski, Fishbach and Kim got the Devils off to an outstanding start at 6-2.
- After JHU went on a 5-1 push, a pair of Kim scores along with a kill each for Eliette Whittaker and Thomas allowed DC to hang onto a 12-11 edge.
- Chidinma Onukwugha, Ivy Swafford, Jilienne Widener, Carlsen and Pater answered back for the Jays to take a 19-16 advantage.
- Dickinson would not go down quietly however as Avery Butcher, Barowski, Fishbach, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker had the Red and White on the verge of the set at 24-23.
- An error and ace put Hopkins ahead 25-24, but Thomas and Whittaker took the next three for a 27-25 win.
- Butcher, Fishbach, Kim and Thomas had things on the seesaw early as the set was locked up at 9-9.
- A kill each for Kim and Thomas made it 11-10 DC, but Widener then started a 15-3 outburst ending on a Devils mishit to take the set 25-14.
- Barowski, Kim and Thomas supplied the offense for the home side at the start as DC fell behind 9-6.
- Following a kill each for Carlsen and Swafford, Barowski, Fishbach, Kim and Thomas each followed with points for the home side to cut the deficit down to just one (13-12).
- The group of Adam, Carlsen, Pater and Swafford then put the Devils on the defensive as they grabbed a 21-14 lead.
- Once again Dickinson put up a good fight as Barowski, Fishbach and Kim all put down kills to close the gap down to 22-18.
- Unfortunately, Alice Yu and Adam recorded three straight to end the match at 25-18.
