Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team erupted for three goals in the first half on the way to a 5-1 victory over visiting Gettysburg College on Wednesday afternoon. Each class tallied a goal as the Red Devils improve to 4-2 overall and are off to a 2-0 start in Centennial Conference play.
The Red Devils struck first as sophomore Julia Murphy (Greenwood Village, Colo./Colorado Academy) collected a rebound and had a great look to put Dickinson on the board in the seventh minute of the match.
The Bullets pulled even, less than three minutes later as Hannah Fitzgerald countered with an unassisted goal to tie the game, 1-1.
Junior Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) crossed a beautiful ball into the circle where first-year Libby Tower (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) found the back of the cage with her first collegiate goal to put the Red Devils back on top with 18:23 to play in the half.
Kramer tallied her seventh goal of the season with just under five minutes in the clock to put Dickinson in front, 3-1, at the break.
The Red Devils remained in control of the game for the better part of the second half, tacking on two more goals after the break. Junior Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) made a great dodge on the right side and found daylight in front of the cage in the 51st minute for a 4-1 lead.
Senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown) rattled the cage with just under 10 minutes remaining for the final of 5-1.
First-year goalkeeper Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) posted her third straight win as the Red Devils improve to 4-2 and 2-0 in the CC.
Statistically, the match was relatively even as both team recorded 16 shots with Gettysburg holding a slim 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Haley Mowery made six save for the Bullets as they fall to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Red Devils are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 12:00 pm start.
