Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with a remarkable performance from senior Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) on Saturday. Clancy tallied six goals and handed out an assist to lead the Red Devils to a 13-8 win over visiting Ursinus College.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead on an assist and free position goal from Devin Brakel. Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) found the net and then fed first-year Eleanor Kaestner (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) to knot the game with 18:39 remaining in the half.
The teams traded goals, playing to a 4-4 tie at the break. Dickinson outshot the Bears 19-7 in the first half, forcing seven saves from Margaret Philbin.
Clancy struck in the opening three minutes with an assist from Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and countered an Ursinus score with an assist to senior Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) to put the Devils up, 6-5 at the 26:09 mark.
Kaci McNeave put the Bears in front with back-to-back goals before Clancy took over, netting a natural hat-trick in a span of just over three minutes to put Dickinson up, 9-7 with 16:34 left to play.
Siebold and first-year Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) made the score 11-7, closing out a 5-0 run.
Courtney Cortese broke up the run but Clancy would counter, right off of the draw, finding the net just eight seconds later. She tallied her sixth of the game with 2:14 remaining to secure the win.
Clancy finished with six goals and one assist while Siebold scored twice, dished out two assists and controlled six draws. Senior Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) caused three turnovers, picked up three grounds balls and controlled four draws on the day.
Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied seven saves and three ground balls to go with a turnover.
The Red Devils improve to 5-3 overall and are off to a 2-0 start in the Centennial Conference. They travel to #6-ranked Gettysburg College on Wednesday to face the Bullets at 4:00 pm.
