Big Bats Lead Devils to Split With Terror

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team kept pace in the Centennial Conference, splitting a double-header with McDaniel College on Tuesday night at Dickinson Park.

The Red Devils rallied with five runs in the in fifth and sixth innings of game one to take a 6-5 lead. The Green Terror answered in the top of the seventh to tie the game and scored two in the eight to claim the opener, 8-6, in extra innings.

McDaniel scored twice in the first on a two-RBI single from Caitlin Deitchman, and went in front 3-0 on a homerun by Roxana Aviles.

Senior Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) led-off the bottom of the second with a triple and came in to score as a McDaniel player made a catch for an out but carried the ball out of play in the process.

A homerun in the third and another lone tally in the fourth put the Green Terror up 4-1. Doubles from Marissa Ruschil (Katonah, N.Y./St. Luke's, Conn.) and Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) led to a three-run inning for the Red Devils.

Dickinson added two more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and RBI single from Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) to put the Devils in front, 6-5.

McDaniel capitalized on an error, scoring once in the seventh to knot the game and force extra innings. Jamie Weisser drove in two runs with a single and the Green Terror held to take game on, 8-6.

Ditzler and Torlincasi each went 2-for-3 in the opener.

The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead in game two. Torlincasi led-off the first with a double and came in to score on a bases loaded walk from Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley). Orden reached on a bunt single as she attempted a sacrifice. She scored on a wild pitch to put the Devils in front, 2-0.

An error led to an unearned run and an RBI for Orden in the second. Deichman tallied two RBIs in the third inning for McDaniel as the cut the deficit to 4-3, with three unearned runs.

The Red Devils added one in the third and erupted for six in the fourth to hold a 10-3 lead. Torlincasi doubled for the second time, driving in two runs.

Each team scored three in the fifth to give Dickinson a 13-6 advantage. McDaniel tallied three in the sixth but the Devils held on for the win, 13-9.

Clayton went 1-for-2 and drove in four runs. Orden went 3-for-3 in the nightcap and Torlincasi finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Edelson went 2-for-5, scoring three runs and driving in another while Rushchil went 2-for-3.

First-year Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) went six innings to earn the win while Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) came on to close, recording three strikeouts in the seventh.

The Red Devils recorded 15 hits in each game as they move to 5-15 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford College at 1:00 pm.
