(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team turned in a great defensive performance in game two, forcing a split with Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon at Dickinson Park. Errors in the opener hurt the Red Devils in an 8-2 setback before they tightened things up to claim the nightcap, 2-0.
The Red Devils struck first in the opener, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) drew a lead-off walk and scored on the very next at-bat. Torlincasi got a huge jump on a sacrifice bunt by Michelle Orden (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) and was heading to third, forcing an errant throw that allowed her to score.
The Crusaders scored two in the second inning on a two-RBI single from Amanda Neveroski. Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) reached on a walk and tied the game on another miscue as Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) reached on an error.
Susquehanna tallied lone runs in the fifth and sixth, and tacked on three unearned runs in the seventh to claim game one.
The Red Devils worked for both runs in game two to earn the split. Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) led-off the fourth with a double to the wall and moved to third in a wild pitch. She came in to score off the bat of Clayton to put the Devils up, 1-0.
Dickinson added another insurance run in the sixth as Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) roped a double and came in to score on an RBI single from Edelson.
First-year Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) worked her way out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh for a complete game shutout to earn the win in the circle.
Edelson went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the nightcap.
The Red Devils move to 3-13 on the season. They travel to Ursinus College for the Centennial Conference opener in Saturday at 1:00 pm.
