(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team put up a challenge in both matches on Saturday, but suffered a pair of 3-1 setbacks at the Muhlenberg Buttermaker Invitational.
The Red Devils struck first in their opening match, claiming the first set against Stevenson University, 25-23. The Mustangs answered, taking the second 25-20 and carried the momentum into the third for a 25-16 decision. Stevenson held off the Devils, 25-19, in the fourth to win the match.
Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) recorded 12 kills and eight digs while sophomore Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied 12 kills as well, while classmate Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) chipped in with 11 kills.
Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) had a big match with 37 digs and three aces. First-year setter Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) handed out 39 assists and picked up 14 digs.
Dickinson played another strong match against Rowan University to close out the weekend. The Profs captured the opening set, 25-19, and slipped away with a tight second, 28-26, to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Red Devils countered to stay alive, winning the third, 25-20.
Rowan survived a battle in the fourth as Dickinson battled the entire way before the Profs escaped with a 25-23 set to claim the match.
Misrok added 16 digs in the nightcap while Emily and Hannah Smith each tallied 14. Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) put away nine kills while Park added seven kills and four blocks at the net. Emily Smith also added five kills and three blocks.
The Red Devils slip to 3-7 overall. They return home to host Albright College on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in the Kline Center.
