(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team traveled to Swarthmore College on Saturday, and posted an 18-11 win over the Garnet.
The Red Devils struck first as Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) finished an assist from Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes), just under four minutes into the contest.
Swarthmore answered before the Devils went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead at the 16:42 mark. Swarthmore sandwiched a pair of goals around a second tally from Morrissey to cut the deficit to 5-3. Dickinson closed out the half with a 3-1 run behind back-to-back goals from Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and Elizabeth Sitko (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School), and a second goal from Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) to give the Devils a 9-4 lead at the break.
Talene Bush (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and Sitko stretched the lead to 10-4 with goals in the opening two minutes of the second half. Swarthmore continued to break up the Devils scoring runs with lone goals, but were unable to gain any ground.
The Devils used another 3-0 stint to stretch the margin to 13-5, with 21:05 remaining in the game. Dickinson kept the Garnet at bay, holding at least an eight-goal lead for the better part of the second half.
Swarthmore put together a 3-0 clip late, to pull within six, at 17-11. First-year Katie Barton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) put the final touches on the win, scoring in the final seconds to close out the game.
Sitko led the charge with four goals on the day. Morrissey finished with a hat-trick and handed out an assist. Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) tallied a hat-trick as well, scoring three goals in the second half. Bush and Iverson each scored twice while senior Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Holy Child) and Allison Carey (Weston, Conn./Lauralton Hall) each dished out two assists.
Senior JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made five saves and Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) stopped six in the second half. First-year Julia Primaeu Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) controlled three draws, three GBs and caused a pair of turnovers. Maura Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) added three draws, two GBs and two caused turnovers as well.
The Red Devils improve to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm start.
