(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team slipped to 5-6 on the season, falling at Washington College, 11-6, on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) put the Red Devils on the board, just 22 seconds into the game. The Shorewomen answered, scoring the next five goals to take a 5-1 advantage, with 11:29 remaining in the first half.
Sophomore Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) broke up the run, scoring her 20th goal of the season. Washington countered just 11 seconds later, and stretched the margin to 7-2, with 5:18 to play in the half.
The Red Devils rallied with a pair of late goals as first-year Elizabeth Sitko (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) converted a free position with 1:30 on the clock. Sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) found the net, finishing an assist from Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) with just seven seconds to play in the half, to make the score 7-4.
The Red Devils opened the second with a back-to-back goals to pull within one. Morrissey struck first with an assist from O'Brien, and Siebold tickled twine on a free position to cut the lead to 7-6.
The score remained that way for the next 15 minutes before Washington struck with a goal from Rachael Shaw as Alli Dudley handed out her 26th assist of the season. The Shorewomen scored three goals in three minute spans for the final of 11-6.
Dudley finished with five assists as Washington improved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference. Haylee Solomon made 10 saves for the Shorewomen.
Siebold led the attack with two goals, controlling four draws and causing three turnovers on the defensive end. Molli Haimerl (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) picked up five GBs. JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made six saves in the first half and Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied four in the second.
The Red Devils return home to face McDaniel College on Wednesday night. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Biddle Field.
