(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a Centennial Conference double-header at McDaniel College on Tuesday afternoon. The Green Terror was one-batter shy of a perfect game in the opener, posting an 8-0 win, and claimed the nightcap, 13-1.
Sophomore Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) spoiled the bid for a perfect game, reaching on an error in the fifth inning. Senior hurler Caroline Brehm relied on her defense all game, recording five strikeouts in the circle for McDaniel. She did record the no-hit shut-out, improving to 7-4 on the year.
Jamie Weissler led the Green Terror at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of homeruns, driving in five runs in the process. Weissler hit a three-run shot in the third and closed out the game with a two-run bomb on the bottom of the fourth.
Brehm scattered a pair of hits in game-two, recording another five strikeouts to earn the win. Lindsay Miller put the Terror on the board early on the second game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. McDaniel erupted for five more in the second and four in the third, en route to their 10th win of the season, improving to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils scored in the second after Nicole Torlincasi (King's Park, N.Y./King's Park) was hit by a pitch and moved around to third on a ground out and a single from first-year Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley). Torlincasi came in to score on an error to spoil the shutout.
The Red Devils slip to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They return to action tomorrow evening, facing Elizabethtown at 5:00 pm. That game was moved up to avoid potentially threatening weather on Thursday.
