(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a double-header to Haverford College on Sunday afternoon.
Game one was scoreless through the first four innings before Haverford put a run on the board in the top of the fifth. Elizabeth Newman singled and came in score on a wild pitch, after moving to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Newman added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 2-0 in the sixth. Sophomore Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) singled in the bottom of the inning and came in to score on a double from Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh).
Jen DiCandilo led-off the seventh with a solo homerun to give the 'Fords an insurance run. Brittany Stevenson came on to close out the game in relief. Sara Tauriello earned the win with a four-hit effort.
Maring went 2-for-3 in game one as did first-year infielder Michelle Orden (Pascack).
Haverford scored lone runs in the second and third innings of game two, and tallied four runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Kristin Tatum hit a double and scored in the second and added a two-run homer in the fourth. Sarah Brody drove in a pair of runs as well.
The Red Devils answered with a two-run homer by Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville). They added two more in the fifth. Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a double from Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona).
Swade scored on an RBI from Edelson and Ditzler came across on a passed ball to pull Dickinson within a pair of runs.
Jill Schnall hit a three-run homer as Haverford tacked on four in the top of the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 10-4.
Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) reached on walk and scored on a single by Swade for the final run as the Devils fell, 10-5.
Maring went 2-for-3 in the nightcap as well while Piet added two RBIs.
Haverford improves to 14-6 and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-18 overall and 2-8 in the CC. They are scheduled to travel to Swarthmore next Saturday for a 1:00 pm, double-header.
