(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought match at Muhlenberg College on Saturday, falling 3-0 to the Mules.
Muhlenberg posted back-to-back 25-18 scores to claim the first two sets and held off the Devils, 25-23, in the third.
The Red Devils started strong in the opening set before a 5-0 run put Muhlenberg in front, 16-8. The Red Devils battled back to within 16-11, but the Mules would close out the set for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Muhlenberg opened with a 5-0 run and stretched the lead to 8-2. Sophomore Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) served the Devils back even at 9-9. The Mules answered with a 5-0 run to gain some breathing room and then stretched the lead to 16-10 en route to the 25-18 final.
The Mules led 6-1 early in the third and pulled in front 17-6, before the Red Devils rallied as they looked to extend the match. Junior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) served 10 straight as Dickinson cut the deficit to 18-16.
They continued to battle, pulling in front, 19-18. The Red Devils were even at 22, but the hosts would close out the set, 25-23, to claim the match and improve to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.
First-year Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) led the attack with eight kills while classmate Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied seven kills and four blocks.
First-year Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Smith each finished with seven kills. Junior setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 26 assists and sophomore Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded 10 digs.
The Red Devils slip to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face McDaniel College on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
