(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games at Haverford as the Devils were held to just five hits on the day. The 'Fords claimed the opener, 2-0, and posted a 5-3 decision in the nightcap to improve to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference.
The host 'Fords pushed across two runs in the bottom of sixth to break a scoreless tie in the opener. Back-to-back singles put runners on base and back-to-back singles scored the runs as Haverford recorded four of its six hits in the sixth inning.
Sara Tauriello improved to 5-0, holding the Devils to a pair of hits while recording six strikeouts. Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton ) recorded three strikeouts in the loss.
The 'Fords opened game two with a three-run first inning, using a pair of hits and two doubles to strike early. The Devils answered with three in the third inning on as senior Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) doubled in a run and first-year Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) doubled to scored two more to tie the game.
Dayle Comerford led-off the fourth inning with a double and came in to score on a single by Kristin Tatum. Tatum came around an a Red Devil error to give the hosts a 5-3 lead.
That would prove to be enough as the Devils reached base just once in the final three innings. Emily Winesett went five innings to earn the win and improve to 6-3 with four strikeouts in the game. Claire Fitzgerald pitched two innings to pick up the save.
The Red Devils slip to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Gettysburg College on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.
